Our hearts experience the presence or absence of virtues through the sensations we call emotions.
When we understand that our negative emotions are sensations that are responding to a lack of virtues in our interactions, we can see them as messengers, not states of being.
Virtues are character strengths that all humans inherently possess. They can be strengthened through effort. This means that we can respond to negative emotions by either developing the needed virtues in ourselves, or working to establish them in our relationships. It gives us a positive focus for action that puts us back in control.
This poster acts as a “cheat sheet” to help you quickly identify the virtue that is either present or absent in a situation, based on the emotions present. It will not necessarily tell you exactly what you need to do in order to resolve a situation, but it will point in the right direction.
Virtue- or character-oriented sessions focus on the positive qualities a person can bring to a problem rather than the negative aspects of a situation.
You will find a much more indepth exploration of the relationship between virtues and emotions in the book The Secret of Emotions, available individually or in bulk here and individually at Amazon.
