Use words like light, color, contrast, balance, and harmony. Ask them if they like it too. When you speak out loud about beauty, your children will become comfortable pointing out the things that they find beautiful.
Appreciating beauty helps us slow down, develop a sense of wonder, and find the beauty in ourselves. Knowing what others find beautiful tells us volumes about them, and a shared love of beauty creates strong emotional bonds.

From Appreciating Beauty to Creating It
Kids who appreciate beauty in the world will naturally be driven to explore creating some of it themselves. Color is an essential part of that exploration. Every child has their own sense of which colors are their favorites, and which go well together. When those colors have meaningful names, like Beautiful Blue, Patient Purple and Playful Pink, then they begin to internalize relationships between them.
